CALA and their planning application for 400 homes near the entrance to Long Marston Airfield. All this information is freely available if the pessimists bothered to look instead of listening to rumour.
Are we not surprised that a company known for building upmarket houses is asking for permission not to build affordable homes initially. Apparently due to “high level of workload” the planning application (click on important dates) has been moved from January to the end of May and a request by CALA for funding assistance due to the cost of providing services (gas, electric, water etc.) and the cleanup of toxic materials (click on Associated Documents – open APPLICATION and scroll to bottom, click on “Affordable Housing Alternative etc.”.
If these houses get built and occupied while SCR is still a functioning Drag Strip the builders will have to provide soundproofing and the occupants will have no say on the operation of SCR as they were aware of its existence before moving in due to changes in the law!
Current application, if granted, would require new access to the strip as it crosses the main access road (the part containing ticket office), slightly reduced pit area but more of a worry part of the return road would be within the boundary of the application?
Hopefully we will have at least part of a season this year, maybe more – watch this space.
